Abstract


The purpose of this study was to observe pulpal response to glutaraldehyde and formocre3ol in primary vital teeth, its surrounding tissues and successor tooth buds.
For tzis study, 10 mongrel dogs, aging 2-5months, weighing 5k9 or more were devided into 5 groups ; 2hours, 1st week, 2nd week, 4th week, and 6th week group. Under the general anesthesia with Rompun^(R) (Xylozine 2% solution) injection, 0. 15^(§·)/§¸ body weight and Ketalar^(R) (Ketamine HCl) injection, 5-10^(§·)/§¸ body weight, pulpotomies with 2% glutaraldehyde, formocresol in experimental groups and with saline solution in control group woro performed on each and filled with zinc oxide-eugenol. All the animals were sacrified on the 2 hours, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th week respectively.
All the specimens contaiiiing the pizlpotomized tooth were taken,¢¥ fixed in 10%6 normal formalin solution, decalcified, eiribedded in-paraffin .
n- paraffin, section in 6-8l, thickness and stained with hematoxylin-eosin stain method.
1. In control animal groups, it is noticed that suppurative abscess was formed on the
4th, 6th week and alveoar bone, cementum resorptron was revealed on the 6th week.
2. In formocresol groups, it is noticed that pulpal necrosis, internal resorption and
periapical granulation tissue formation were appeared on the 2nd weeks, and internal
resorption, periapical granulation tissue formation were progressed on the 4th, 6th
week.
3. In glutaraldehyde groups, it is noticed that liquefaction necrosis was appeared in
pulp on the.4th week and internal resorption of pulp was revealed on the 6th week
and periapical tissue resorption, inflammatory reactions were induced on the 4th,
6th week.
4. It is noticed the glutaraldehyde, ¢¥ and formocresol application on pulp did not affect to the permanent tooth bud in alvealar bone, but on aspect of irritation to periapical tissues, it is noticed that formocresol group was more significantly affected to periapical tissues.
